21 Worst NBA Draft Picks

Winning in the NBA is typically the product of winning in the draft. Teams like the Golden State Warriors, with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, come to mind. Or how about the San Antonio Spurs, with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili? As much as the pundits assert that defense wins championships, the road to a title begins on draft day. But just as teams can vastly improve their rosters via the draft, they can also make their chances obsolete with the wrong selections. Drafting isn’t simple, just ask the teams that made the following regrettable decisions…

1. Greg Oden - Portland Trail Blazers

Height: 7 ft 0 in, Weight: 273 lbs

One of the most highly touted prospects since Kwame Brown (we’ll get to him), Oden has had nothing but setbacks in his efforts to play at the highest level. Unable to amount to anything with the team that drafted him, Portland, Oden┬ásat out his entire rookie season with a knee injury and eventually a foot injury to boot. He was waived by the team in 2012 to make room for more promising acquisitions. He then signed a one year deal with the Heat. As of 2015, he competes with the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association.
